Business Case
Gapminder is an independent Swedish foundation that promotes fact based understanding of our world and environment through an in-depth statistical analysis. The foundation develops data visualization tools that enable people exploring abundant resources of statistics of different public and private sectors in easier, more meaningful and holistic way. They provide the world’s largest free database for public statistics for education about social, economic and environmental development at local, national and global levels. The statistical data used by Gapminder has been collected from different organizations, which results in variable data formats.
Solution
The scope of this project was to collect all the data, give it a uniform structure and merge publicly available dataset over internet with the existing Gapminder data. We worked actively with the data scientists from Gapminder and provided technical assistance and software development support in building the necessary tools and technologies to standardize the data and present them together using a wide range of visualization tools. The data had practically no limit in volume and variation. Once all the data had a uniform structure, it allowed comparison of data against different organizations and the statistical data could be provided to anyone who needed it. This project demonstrated key benefits of applying information technology in understanding the state of our world through facts and figures.
